November 3rd: Rainy Day Thoughts

It's cold, windy, and rainy here. The fall season is definitely arrived and I'm grateful for the change in weather. It also means seasonal depression starts to kick in, though. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the cold and not want to do anything. You start contemplating if you really need to go to class or if you can just get the notes later.

Taking care of yourself in these cold months is imperative. With them also comes the holidays. Christmas is my personal favorite (I don't care how cliché that sounds).

Just picture it, though: Softly falling snow gracing the frosted windows, glancing at the luminous lights of the Christmas tree and your favorite Christmas music playing in the background. It's a comforting time, full of light and wonder. My favorite Christmas movies are the Polar Express and Rise of the Guardians (I'm assuming that counts, but it's a fantastic movie regardless).

Even though I'm hyping up Christmas, Thanksgiving is also the time for remembering what's important. To be thankful for the things in life that not everyone has the luxury of. Family and time spent together is both underrated and overhyped.

All the hard work in the year is ended by a time of gift giving. It gives humanity more color and personality, as we recall the generosity over the years that's been bestowed.

Whatever brings you joy, make sure to indulge in it. My goal for the moment is to enjoy every day. The little joys in the stretch of daylight I'm given is what I'm focusing on.

A nice compliment. The exact song you were thinking of comes up on your playlist. The cozy, relaxing feeling when you can chill out and watch a movie.

The best times spent are with others during these seasons. Take a break even though you have schoolwork to do. Plan some exciting events to look forward to.

I found this lovely message board in the honors college today. It reminded me that the hard days are the ones where paying attention to the good things is so essential.

Drink some water. Possibly go to bed early tonight. Remember that I love you and others do as well. You are worthy and deserve the world.
